UPSC: Preliminary Civil Services Examination Postponed due to Lok Sabha Elections 2024
Due to the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) decided to postpone the civil services preliminary test from May 26 to June 16.
The UPSC administers the civil services test in three stages each year—primary, main, and interview—to choose candidates for various positions including Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS).
The five-day UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam is scheduled to begin on September 20.
The date for registering for the Civil Services Examinations (CSE) 2024 was previously extended by the Commission. The deadline for registration was extended till March 6 (6 p.m.), according to the official notification. The period of time available for corrections was March 7–March 13.
Total vacancies, qualifications
This year, the commission has announced 1,056 CSE and 150 IFoS positions. Three phases comprise the UPSC CSE examination: preliminary, mains, and personality test. The UPSC CSE preliminary test will have objective-type questions. Candidates scoring above the cut-off marks will eligible to apply for the UPSC IAS Main test.
According to the Commission, who released the CSE notification, in order to be eligible for the exam, a candidate must be at least 21 years old and not older than 32 on August 1, 2024. The candidate must have been born between 2nd Aug, 1992, and 1 Aug 2003.
