Ingredients:

1 cup of dried yellow moong dal (split yellow gram), cleaned and steeped overnight.
1 small onion, coarsely chopped                                                                                      1 small tomato, coarsely chopped
1 coarsely chopped green chili (optional).
Half – thinly sliced carrot
Half-beetroot, finely chopped
2 tablespoons – chopped coriander leaves
1 teaspoon chaat masala
1tsp roasted cumin powder
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
Salt, to taste.
Half bowl: Pomegranate with Groundnut
1 tablespoon – lemon juice
Optional garnish: Sev (crunchy chickpea noodles).
To taste, raw mango, green chutney, and tamarind chutney.
Whisked yogurt is an optional ingredient.

For garnish:

Chopped coriander leaves Sev.                                                                              Pomegranate seeds are optional.

Method:

  • Drain and rinse the soaking moong dal completely. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat water in a big pot until it boils. Cook the moong dal till cooked but not mushy, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Empty and let cool.Combine cooked moong dal, groundnuts, chopped onion, tomato, green chili, and coriander leaves in a big mixing bowl.
  • Add the tamarind chutney, green chutney, lemon juice, red chili powder, roasted cumin powder, and chaat masala. Make sure to mix well.
  • To serve, transfer the moong dal mixture to bowls.If desired, garnish with sev, finely chopped coriander leaves, carrot, beetroot, and pomegranate seeds.
